Palms in Pots

Do all palms do fine in pots? Will all species simply limit their growth based on the size of the pot but otherwise "thrive"? I'm starting to try and figure out what plants I want to use in our courtyard. We have mostly hard scape but also some areas where I want to put plants in the ground. I don't want anything getting much more that 12' or 15' so I was thinking I'd only put the smaller species in the ground but I'm not sure if I need to also limit our selection for the potted palms? Will a "larger" palm wither in a pot eventually? Or perhaps never grow into it's mature shape?

The pindo palm can still grow to be quite large in a pot, but it will happen slowly. What types of palms are you looking into?
