Default Palms, pet's, and kids

I live in Belleville, Kansas and I would like to get some indoor palm trees to add a little of the tropical look, but I also have 2 dogs and young kids, so I have to be careful with the types of plants I put into my house just in case one of the tries to nibble on the plant. Are there any palms trees that may be poisonous if eaten that I need to steer clear of?

Smile Yeah the only palm that is not so good for kids and pets is the sago palm

Sago palms are bad because of the seeds they are poisonous if eaten, but thats the only palm that I know of that would do that. The canary island date palm seeds are also somewhat toxic but you would have to eat a hundred of them and they are extremely bitter and sour, so no worries. I live in Wichita and have a couple of windmill palms and european fan palms in my landscape around my pool. During the winter I wrap them up with christmas lights which keep it warm during freezing temperatures. Just an idea of the palms you can use. But you can also indoor palm trees, they are great for cleaning and purifying the air. Some great indoor palms are the areca palm, the kentia palm, and the bamboo palm. They are full of fronds and the more fronds the better for cleaning and purifying. They also add life to areas of the home and a splash of color... as you can see I love palms, anyways, good luck with choosing your palms!

Hello -
We are in the Kansas City area (zone 6 I believe) and would love to add a few palms to our pool landscaping. But we have limited space and need something that can grow in a planter rather than in the ground. I'm very happy (surprised) to have found several options even for our cold weather. Are any of these smaller varieties that would work well in a large pot as opposed to being in the ground? Any information and advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Scott
