Default Forced hot air + palm

So I know that air conditioning blowing on a pygmy date palm (and perhaps others) will make it droop and dry out the air in general, but is it bad news all around if there is heat blowing on the palm?

I've moved the palm away from the window and the door to the terrace because it's a bit drafty over there. The problem is that the palm is in the direction that the vent blows hot air to the drafty area.

I have a humidifier going often and i spray the fronds down a few times a week to keep the moisture levels up. I'm just concerned over all. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Peter

Default What kind of palm?

If you are talking about a Pigmy Date Palm, it should be ok. More tropical palms that will only grow indoors if you are not in the 10b or better cannot take heat from airheaters very well.

What you are doing by running a humidifer and spraying the fronds is great, just keep a close eye on the color of them; some people tend to over water palms in hot conditions. Make sure not to ever let the soil dry out, it needs to stay moist, but not wet. If the tips of the fronds start to turn a dark green (tips only) the plant is getting too much water. Leaf color should stay pretty even when in the proper conditions.

Default Please look at photos on this thread of palm placement

There are two links below. One is copy and paste and the other just click. These photos of palm trees I attached are pictures sent to us by customers. We hope you enjoy. The photos help with palm designing and correct placement of the palms.

Default Spraying Palms and adding Humidity GREAT!!!

Spraying Palms and adding Humidity GREAT!!!

You can not go wrong with that. Also any green life form placed by air will eventually dry out. Much like our skin. It needs some moisture to keep it from drying out.
