Default Frozen Triangle Palm! Trim?

I have a large triangle palm in Mesa, AZ (trunk is about 5ft tall; fronds come out above 4feet), and it froze! All the fronds are "dead", although the stems of the fronds have green. New growth is coming from the heart, thankfully, but all the other fronds are gonners. Do I trim the affected fronds (all four rows?)? How close to the heart do I dare trim? Of the three fronds in the heart, all except the new growth is "dead" appearing. Can you make a recommendation? P.S. The heat (ever been to AZ in late spring and summer?) is coming; Is now the time? Trim it to the bone (leaving only the heart)? I covet your advice. -Steve

Default Well Steve,

Hopefully your triangle palm is not dead. I love the triangle palm and it cant survive in my climate and I cant believe its surviving out there in Mesa. I went to Mesa, years ago and its so barren and hot and back in 86 there was a similiar cold spell that wiped out most of my friends gardens at the time. Well, the good thing is that new growth is coming out, the bad thing is that the heat is also coming, so put some palm chelate spray on it or some type of fertilizer with heavy nitrogen to get the new spears coming out quicker. You dont want the tree to dry up. If the Triangle palm is in the shade the better. Palms are really resilient and it should bounce back but before the winter did you spray anything on it?

Default I also lost some plants in Phoenix

The best ingredient I use for most of my palms is superthrive and root stimulator. I lost some palms about three weeks ago we had a good freeze but your triangle palm as you said appears to be recovering. Make sure to prune off all the dead leaves before they start draining the palm of necessary nutrients. I cant believe your able to grow a triangle palm in mesa. I have some yuccas and windmill palms and miniature chusan palms and I dont worry, but having a triangle, its probably best to wrap the trunk next time around the heart so that it doesnt die. I would love to see pictures if you have any.
