Mexican Fan Palm turning brown . . . HELP!!!

Hi guys and gals,

I bought a 1' mexican fan palm about two weeks ago online from real palm trees and took it out of the box and planted it according to instructions indoors in a 14" clay pot. I broke up the roots and put the minerals around the side of the roots. I filled the pot with miracle gro tree and shrub soil. I have the tree next to a west facing window, also I have a compact flourescent bulb shinging on the plant from about 5 feet away for at least 8-10 hours a day. The palms were doing fine but a few days ago i noticed the leaves starting to lose their bright green color - now its more of a green/brown. I had been watering every day from a pint to a quarts worth, usually in one dosage. The last few I started watering it only every other day. Any help in saving this palm would be most appreciated!!!!

Mexican fan palms grow in desert conditions and like to dry out between waterings. Good Luck!
