@ guru, I have been living in Bridgeport, Connecticut for many many years, but recently found out there are palms that could maybe survive in Connecticut. I have a sister living in fort Myers, Florida she is always talking about there palms. I’m just jealous they even send pictures to rube it in more knowing that I live in Bridgeport and no plant survives! So I want a beautiful palm that can survive in Connecticut sir. Hard leaves to be specific, also what extra precautionary measures do I have to take for this Connecticut weather. Cant wait to get a reply more like I cant wait to shut my sister up!!

Three options off the top of my head would be A Pindo, which would recieve no damage anywhere from around 10-15 Degrees F.;Additionally having the Hard leaves you're specifically seeking. Second that comes to mind would be the Pygme Palm, with a minimum temperature of 25 Degrees F. but keep in mind with the Pygme, in the upper 20's the fronds will burn & by early summer will become unnoticeable. Last but not least, is the Queen Palm, Also known as Cocus plumosa which can survive in conditions any from 25-35 Degrees F. Hope this helped :]

Get any palm and keep it indoors! If you wat something for outside look at the Windmill Palms they come from the Himalayan Mountains (Very Cold Tolerant) They are beautiful. There are more Palms Specifically for the snow regions. I would ask a Palm Hugger what all the different ones are but the Windmill Palm is my Favorite.

The Flamethrower Palm is really cool it comes from New Caledonia. I bought one for my mother in law she has had it for a little over 2 years now its slow growing but very cool. Flamethrowers do great indoors they act as a natural humidifier and detoxifier by removing Carbon Monoxide and replacing fresh Oxygen

Im in Greenwich I just got mine. I really like this palm. I don't want it to kill it. Is there any thing specific I need to do to ensure its health and longevity. I put it in a planter but now what? I've never been to New Caledonia LOL I don't know what's the watering schedule does it like to be misted? Is there a specific food for it? I got a kit of specific fertilizer and this stuff for the roots how is your mother in law caring for hers 2 years later? Does anyone know? any advice?
