Lipstick Palm
 

I have a lipstick palm and I heard they are very hard to take care of and might die for any reasons...Can anyone clarify on this?

well...
 

The lipstick palm requires alot of attention, unless you have the perfect environment. it needs a very warm, humid, and wet climate in order to flourish and some people don't want to take the time to recreate that environment. hence, its an exotic palm because of its needs.

There is a fungus living in the lipstick palm that is dormant until it reaches a certain temperature. So you must live some where that never goes under 60 degrees F. so if you have in a pot, you can put inside when it gets cold out but remember they are sensitive so lighting must be sufficient. Let me tell you its worth it, in my opinion.

I thought you were talking about a different fungus
 

The fungus that i think your thinking about is Mycorrhizal Fungi which creates thicker root balls which in turn create more processed nutrients to the plant which turns into a better looking plant. It's like natural steriods for plants.

Lipstick palms need humidity to thrive, try placing it next to a lake or pool

Your right there is something a fungi that is with in the lipstick palm that will become active and kill the palm. I dont know that name of it by i remember seeing it in another forum. Sorry I couldn't help.

Hopefully this spring and summer are going to be long, I just bought some lipstick palm seeds and hope to germinate them and have them for the christmas time... its going to be a palm wonderland!

Yes, I had the same questions before I ordered this palm you don't want to put it in direct sunlight the secret is you have to water more often then lets say a coconut palm because the lipstick palm needs to have its soil moist. If you cant water often look at the water melon palm or some people call it flame thrower or red feather leaf palm.
