Default I need help identifying and hopefully saving.

Can anyone tell me what palm this is and how do I care for it? Should I be cutting all those ferns off under the fronds? Are they maybe chocking it? I have no clue. It just doesn't look very healthy and has me worried. It drops these orange date looking things a few times a year, so I think it's some kind of Date Palm, but really have no idea.

Please Help!!

Thank you!!

Beau

Fairly certain that this is in the Butia family...believe it is Butia Odorata. The common name for this is Pindo palm, Jelly palm. Last year, I ate the fruit off about 500-600...this is one of the best tasting palm fruits. I have about 20 that are 1 year old right now...fairly slow growing. The nicest feature to this palm are the arching fronds. I would try to cut all fern growth off as you are correct in it choking this palm. Scott
