Default looking for some seeds...

I have 3 boys and i wanted to have them start growing things in our large backyard as sort of a project to get them away from their video games. I will be waiting until spring comes around, however i wanted to know if their were any certain palm tree seeds that are recomended and sort of grow fast?

We live close to the beach so everything is sort of beachy here this is why i chose palm trees plus we plan to live in this house until the time they are older and have families of their own and when they come to visit us they will always see and remember their palm trees that each grew when they were younger.

Default A fast growing Palm Tree. Thats what your kids need.

The reason why is they will get bored that it isnt growing or that nothing is happening. So a fast growing palm tree would be the King Palm. Also the Areca. and the Canary Island Date germinate really quick. Some palm seeds take months and i know kids with their attention span will only bare a week or two. let me think of other palms that will grow fast from seedlings. ... Coconut palm. They grow really fast. and different type of banana trees grow super fast.

Well i hope i helped. Let me know if you have any other questions

Default re: fast growing palm tree seeds

yes GG your info did help and i think i might go with one of those maybe ill get some cocount palm tree seeds. Not only will they grow fast but they will be interesting bc those trees have cocounts that will eventually fall.

the only other question i have is is there any special care or things i have to do for these certain types of palms?

thanks

Default If you are going to buy a coconut palm tree seed

There are a few directions to germinate them. Your going to have to do the float test and this will tell you how to LAY THE COCONUT ON THE GROUND because naturally as it falls to the floor or in the water in the wild it will lay heavy side down. That is the side you want to lay down your coconut seed. Then you will want to wait for about two to three months, i know this seems long but once the coconut breaks through the husk it will grow really fast. The first 3-4 months the coconut will not need any water but it would be nice to water it anyways. They get there nutrients and water from the inside of the coconut and will use that to shoot down a root to find water. That takes up to three months. Evolution is crazy right. well with that said good luck to you hope i have helped any more questions ask away
