Product Description

Small Fishtail Palm Tree, Caryota mitis

The Fishtail Palm (Caryota mitis) is also commonly known as the Clustered Fishtail Palm because of it natural way of forming in clumps. This palm tree is unique in many ways and will make a great natural privacy fence for any home or eco-friendly landscape. It is a handsome suckering palm tree that is amazing when fully mature. The Fishtail Palm Tree is moderate in growth. Native to Southeast Asia and India, the Fishtail Palm Tree has a maximum average height of about 15 to 25 feet, with a spread of about 10 to 15 feet. The common name is derived from the appearance of the leaflets which are in shape of a fish’s tail fin. The bi-pinnate leaves of the Fishtail Palm are light green to dark green in color. The leaf stems can reach the heights of 9-10 feet in length. After blossoming on any particular trunk, the trunk will soon die but is replaced with another. This palm is an attractive, durable palm that is used increasingly in full lighted areas where light is less needed. It is not considered cold hardy but will tolerate temperatures below freezing for a short period of time. Its neat habit of clumping make this palm tree ideal for use around pools, in planters or other containers, and it is often seen in interiorscapes. This palm tree placed in any location will give you the desired tropical effect you’re looking for.
