The Sago Palm is not really a palm tree but a cycad, which is an old species of plants that date back to the Mesozoic Era, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The Sago Palm originates from the island of Japan, but can now be found throughout the world and almost any landscape. The Botanical Name for Sago Palm is Cycas revoluta which refers to Cycas being the genus, or group of plants, and revoluta which means to curl back. When young the Sago Palm begins from a seed or usually as sucklings, small offsets of the trunk of the palm.
